One of the most beautiful and meaningful passages in the Old Testament is Genesis 22. After a lifetime of stumbling in his faith journey, Abraham finally demonstrated that he had grown, learned from his previous mistakes, and became the man of faith that God described him of being (Genesis 15:6; Romans 4:1–22; Galatians 3:6–9; Hebrews 11:8–10, 17–19).

The weight of past failures—bringing his kin, Lot, with him against God’s instruction, lying to Pharaoh and Abimelech, and taking Hagar as a wife in an attempt to secure an heir—somehow seems to melt away in this one chapter. God’s provision of a lamb proved that Abraham placed unwavering confidence in God—that he now truly feared, honored, and believed in God.

Because of Abraham’s obedience, it was declared:

“On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided” (Genesis 22:14).

We should all attempt to “go to the mount of the Lord” in our faith journey as Christ-followers, completely trusting God, fully submitting to His will, and knowing that He will provide for us perfectly.

The chapters that follow (23 and 24), even with Sarah’s death, reveal the HESED (steadfast love) of God being poured out on His faithful servant, Abraham. His greatest blessing was not only witnessing the fulfillment of God’s promises in his lifetime but also having the privilege of passing the baton to his one and only son, Isaac.

My hope is that we experience the blessing of God’s steadfast love too—walking faithfully, trusting deeply, and seeing God's provision unfold in our lives and passed on to the next generation.
